Thrive matter is the lowest carbon footprint yarn in the industry, made from 100-percent solution-dyed nylon 6 with 90-percent recycled content. This innovative yarn, paired with Forbo’s lean production processes, results in carpet tiles with more than 75-percent recycled content and a very low embodied carbon (less than 1.5kg CO2 per square meter). The collection is manufactured in facilities using 100-percent renewable energy, including both electricity and biogas, reinforcing Forbo’s commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Donna Hannaway, head of Marketing UK and Ireland at Forbo Flooring Systems, said: “As a manufacturer, sustainability is extremely important to us at Forbo. Our core values are Renewability, Transparency and Circularity, and as such we’re always looking for ways to adapt and evolve our product portfolios in line with this, as well as to meet modern sustainability requirements. This means we are constantly developing new ways for architects and specifiers to incorporate environmentally friendly finishes into their projects, as with this new collection.”

In addition to its environmental benefits, Tessera Topology offers a sophisticated, contemporary aesthetic. The collection features a geometric pattern that balances linear angles with organic textures, creating a unique and versatile design that brings warmth and character to any interior space. Designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, Tessera Topology is available ex stock, making it ideal for office refurbishments and other fast-track projects. The collection also meets stringent indoor air quality standards, such as Indoor Air Comfort Gold and GUT certification, ensuring a healthier environment for end users.

Available in collection of beautiful neutral tones and muted accent, such as the subtle beige of Pebble Tangent and the earthy green of Willow Inverse, Tessera Topology provides an ideal solution for a wide range of projects. The tiles come in a standard 50x50cm format, so can be easily integrated with other products from Forbo’s existing Tessera range, offering endless design possibilities.

Forbo’s Tessera carpet tiles can be installed adhesive free using IOBAC MagTabs™, allowing them to be easily removed and reused or recycled, supporting a circular economy. Forbo is also proud to have recently entered into partnership with the Salvation Army Trading Company, supporting it’s Take Back scheme and furniture shops with donations of reusable carpet tiles.

Universal Fibers are delighted that Tessera Topology marks a significant step forward in Forbo’s sustainability journey and is the first in the company’s Evolve+ series, a product line dedicated to enhanced sustainability and innovation in carpet tile manufacturing.

Phil Harmon, president of Universal Fibers, shared his thoughts on the collaboration: “Our work with Forbo has enabled the creation of an industry-leading product that aligns perfectly with the evolving demands of sustainability in the carpet tile industry. We are thrilled to see Thrive matter, our most sustainable fiber yet, contribute to Forbo’s sustainable vision.”

Va. — September 10, 2024 — New snowfall® by Burmatex®, is a groundbreaking carpet tile that seamlessly blends innovative design with environmental responsibility. Crafted with Universal Fibers® Thrive® matter yarn, the world’s first carbon-negative recycled yarn, it takes its design inspiration from the undulating patterns made by snowfall.

Thrive matter stands alone as the most environmentally conscious solution-dyed, high-performance nylon fibers in the World. This, combined with Burmatex’s unique BioBase recycled backing, makes snowfall a carbon-neutral product, setting a new standard for interiors.

Snowfall offers an expansive and versatile color palette with 16 shades, ranging from neutrals and contemporary greens to luminous peaches and icy blues. Each shade is carefully curated to reflect the natural beauty of winter landscapes, making it ideal for contemporary, trend-led workspaces that require both style and functionality.

The versatile random-pattern-match design and beautiful color palette makes it ideal for zoning different areas within an office, offering a practical solution for open-plan environments. Whether used to define collaborative spaces, quiet zones, or meeting areas, the snowfall tiles can seamlessly adapt to various design needs.

Burmatex Designer, Holly, shares her insights on the snowfall creative design process: “Snowfall was born out of a desire to capture the understated elegance of snow patterns and the shadows they create. We wanted to develop a range that not only stands out visually but also provides versatility for various interior applications.”

Vivien, Burmatex head of Design, emphasized the importance of collaboration in the product’s development, “The more we work with Thrive matter yarn from Universal Fibers, the more we discover its incredible potential. Our collaboration with Universal Fibers has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the development of sustainable flooring options.”

Anna Plumb, vice president of European Sales and Marketing at Universal Fibers, highlights the joint effort, “Snowfall is a perfect example of what can be achieved when companies work closely together. By combining our yarn expertise with Burmatex’s design vision, together we have created a sustainable product that not only meets our commitment to lowering embodied carbon but also delivers exceptional design and performance.”

Snowfall is supported by Burmatex’s comprehensive recovery take-back service — by partnering with local organizations, they find new homes for used carpet tiles, ensuring that they continue to serve a purpose within the community. Dow Introduces Its First Bio-Circular Attributed Product For Carpet Tile Backing https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2024/09/dow-introduces-its-first-bio-circular-attributed-product-for-carpet-tile-backing/ Thu, 05 Sep 2024 18:01:25 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=98355 MIDLAND, Mich. — September 5, 2024 — Today, Dow announced the introduction of its first bio-circular product* for the flooring industry, an addition to the ENGAGE™ REN Polyolefin Elastomers (POE) product portfolio. The flooring innovation* will be used in the manufacturing of carpet tile backing to provide dimensional stability and adhesion support for fibers.

This new bio-circular product* brings the same high performance as the rest of the ENGAGE™ POE portfolio while helping customers meet their sustainability goals. ENGAGE REN POEs offer a viable alternative to virgin petrochemical products by utilizing alternative feedstocks produced from residues of biological origin and responsibly sourced waste, such as used cooking oil, and converting them into bio-circular products* with a lower carbon impact. Dow’s resins from bio-circular feedstocks are ISCC PLUS-certified under a mass balance approach for chain of custody, allowing customers to account for these materials in their supply chains.

“This innovation represents a crucial step toward expanding our circularity offerings into new markets,” said Joanna Giovanoli, senior marketing manager for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business. “By supporting our flooring customers with bio-circular feedstock options that maintain high performance, we can give waste a new life, potentially reducing carbon footprints and reliance on fossil feedstocks. This is how we are moving Dow and our customers closer to shared sustainability goals.”

Bio-circular materials are a key pillar within Dow’s vision for a lower-carbon plastics ecosystem. Dow’s “Transform the Waste” target aims to commercialize 3 million metric tons of circular and renewable solutions by 2030, which involves using plastic waste and alternative feedstocks, including bio-circular. These raw materials, made from waste residues or by-products from an alternative production process, support a circular economy by enabling material reuse.

“We are committed to developing innovative products that meet the sustainability needs of our customers and help drive toward a circular economy,” said Rosalyn Kent, associate TS&D scientist for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business. “To do this, we continue to explore alternative feedstock options that reduce the impacts of production and invest in new partnerships that progress bio-circular raw materials to produce high-quality resins.”

The new suite of offices spans 12,500 square feet, totaling 50,000 square feet across more than 40 offices created specifically for designers and architects in ADAC and ADAC West. The dedication behind creating these unique spaces is a testament to ADAC’s innovation and forward-thinking as demand for smaller, unique office spaces and curated amenities at ADAC is at an all-time high.

The new suite of offices will live on the second floor near The Hungry Peach café and will include a plethora of natural light, shared conference rooms, unisex bathrooms, a break room with a kitchenette, and a common area to utilize. The estimated completion date for the Design Studios at ADAC is the first quarter of 2025.

“We are beyond thrilled to expand and add an additional suite of studios to our campus. The decision was easy, given the amount of demand for a studio and the interest of many designers in expanding their thumbprint,” said Katie Miner, ADAC general manager. “This expansion is not just about providing an enhanced space, but also about enriching creativity, fostering collaboration, innovation, and sculpting the future of our environment here at ADAC.”

Previously home to 14 Design Studios that opened over time and throughout the center, ADAC welcomed a suite of 12 more dedicated Design Studios on the 5th Floor in 2015, making 26 campus wide. ADAC, and ADAC West has nearly doubled its available office space to offer designers and architects a highly convenient location in proximity to over 1,400 product lines across its 65 showrooms, common space including ADAC’s Designer’s Lounge and Presentation Room as well as two restaurants on-site, The Hungry Peach and KR Steakbar. With an office at ADAC, designers can live in a built-in ecosystem of product lines, showrooms, restaurants, event space, and more, creating a more convenient environment to source products, host clients, and work on day-to-day projects. Also, tenants have access to about 100 annual events, marketing communications across the Southeast and country, and media partnerships, collaborations, and publicity opportunities.

“The whole Tish Mills Interiors team is thrilled to relocate to the new Design Studios on the 2nd Floor. I love the convenience, inspiration, and overall support that our Studio at ADAC has provided us for more than 18 years,” added Tish Mills Kirk, proprietor of Tish Mills Interiors. “This new chapter and location will continue to allow my team to see the latest in design in our own backyard, allowing the whole building to feel like an extension of our office and team. Can’t wait to get moved in and settled.”

In addition to the new suite of design offices, some current tenants are expanding their space to showcase their work further and accommodate more clients and projects, and some new additions have been added.

Below are details on the latest ADAC design studio updates and expansions:

Kit Castaldo Deisgn | Suite 503B

Established in 2012, Kit Castaldo Design is a full-service interior design studio that recently moved into a new ADAC location of over 730 square feet. “Having our design office at ADAC allows us to find the perfect resources and opens the door to originality and the highest level of quality for each of our projects,” said Castaldo. The Design Atelier, Inc. | Suite 426

After living in its previous space for eight years, The Design Atelier has since grown and expanded into a 2,400-square-foot office to fit its current needs. “Since starting my company 30 years ago, I have had several office locations throughout Atlanta including the Design Studios on the fifth floor of ADAC. After being there for eight years, we outgrew that space and the ADAC management team helped find space within the building that fit our needs…plenty of natural light, quiet location, and our own entrance that represents the firm well. We are now settled in our new office (amongst all of our favorite vendors) and are thrilled to have a new home within the best design center in the Southeast!” said Melanie Millner. Reiner Design Group | Suite 503F

Reiner Design Group’s move from its previous Midtown studio to a 370-square-foot space in ADAC represents a significant step for the company. New to ADAC, Reiner Design Group will have a devoted design space, allowing it to be immersed within the design community while enhancing visibility with potential clients and projects. The company is thrilled to engage with a broader network of professionals, have instant access to a wide array of resources, and to be included in ADAC’s ongoing design events and presentations.

Habachy Designs + Atelier | Suite 422

Five years after opening its original showroom and design office at ADAC, Habachy Designs + Atelier is thrilled to expand its offerings by doubling the size of its current space to over 3,500 square feet. The expansion accommodates more than 20 new brands to the Southeast region, including a new furniture and rug collection designed by Michael Habachy. “ADAC is a destination for some of the top showrooms in the country, and we are honored to be among them. Designers can find virtually every luxury brand here and don’t need to travel outside of Atlanta to source special pieces from around the world,” said Michael Habachy, Principal at Habachy Designs + Atelier. “A big benefit of being in ADAC is having all these amazing resources at our fingertips. ADAC also does a great job organizing fun and educational events for the trade throughout the year.”  More information at www.HabachyDesigns.com.

Milliken Floors Announces Three Popular Collections Converting To Lowest Carbon Footprint Yarn https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/fiber-world/2024/07/milliken-floors-announces-three-popular-collections-converting-to-lowest-carbon-footprint-yarn/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 15:31:01 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=97109 SPARTANBURG, S.C. — July 22, 2024 — Milliken Floors is proud to announce that Universal Fiber’s groundbreaking and sustainable Thrive® matter yarn is now being utilized in three of its carpet tile collections from July 2024. Thrive matter is the lowest carbon footprint yarn in the industry and a premium nylon 6 fiber with outstanding performance, durability, and exceptional color.

Northward Bound

Thrive matter — created by Universal Fibers® — is currently the lowest carbon footprint nylon yarn available worldwide, with a carbon reduction of 89-percent lower than some virgin nylon yarns. This is due to the use of 100-percent post-industrial recycled resin for a total of 90-percent recycled content (Recycled content GreenCircle® Certified).

Alison Kitchingman, director of Marketing and Design at Milliken – Carpet Division (EMEIA) commented: “At Milliken Floors we’re aware that one of the most critical issues to our customers is the potential impact their product choices could have on climate change. We’re constantly looking for ways to address this and reduce our products’ embodied carbon without compromising on design and performance benefits. That’s why we have introduced three of our collections with Thrive matter yarn.”

Sculptured Forms

“We are delighted to strengthen our longstanding relationship with Milliken by supporting their latest product conversions to Thrive matter fiber”, says Anna Plumb, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Universal Fibers in Europe. “As Milliken expands its collection of sustainable, low-carbon products, we stand fully committed to our shared environmental goals and are excited about the positive impact our partnership will achieve.”

Major Frequency

The first three Milliken collections to use Thrive matter yarn are bestsellers: Major Frequency (a striking plank collection), Northward Bound (high performance luxurious carpet tiles at an accessible price point) and Sculptured Forms (an elegant premium carpet tile collection).

More about Thrive® matter yarn

To create this innovative fiber, the process begins with 100-percent post-industrial recycled resin which results in a total of 90-percent recycled content. Then, more than 99.9 percent of the waste in production is captured and fed back into the manufacturing process. What results is the world’s lowest product to CO2 footprint in the industry at 1.2kg CO2 eq as compared to 9.6kg CO2 eq for virgin materials (based on nylon 6).

The carbon footprint of 1.2kg CO2e /kg of Thrive yarn is calculated and verified through a ISO14025/ISO14040 compliant LCA, verified by UL and published in third party EPD.

Heimtextil 2025: Carpets & Rugs Is Booming – And Makes Frankfurt An Annual Fixed Point For The Global Carpet Industry https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2024/06/heimtextil-2025-carpets-rugs-is-booming-and-makes-frankfurt-an-annual-fixed-point-for-the-global-carpet-industry/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 18:51:20 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=96580 FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — June 26, 2024 — Even bigger, even more international, even higher quality: this is how the successfully established product group Carpets & Rugs presents itself at Heimtextil 2025. The segment will be even stronger at the upcoming event: Carpets & Rugs already has twice as many exhibitors, an additional hall level and new highlights. Strong brands, exciting new products and content formats await the international carpet industry at Heimtextil 2025 in Frankfurt.

Carpets & Rugs on course for growth: At Heimtextil 2025, the successfully established product segment grows in quality and quantity – and is already recording an enormous increase in exhibitors six months before the upcoming event: more than twice as many companies have already registered compared to the previous year. “We are very pleased about this signal from the market. It clearly reflects the industry’s need for a strong, international and central carpet platform. This is exactly what we offer with Heimtextil in Frankfurt: a comprehensive market overview and a bundled product range combined with the highest quality. We have listened to the market and taken on board the feedback. Now it’s a matter of expanding the range, organising it in a structured way and presenting it to visitors in a structured manner”, explains Bettina Bär, Director Heimtextil. In 2025, the segment grows by an entire hall level: the expanded range of high-quality hand-woven carpets and the international country pavilions are located in the additional Hall 5.0. Once again, Hall 5.1 is home to the growing segment of machine-woven carpets and also brings together the enlarged pre-production offer with fibres and yarns as well as technologies specifically for the carpet industry. Hand-knotted carpets and unique pieces, doormats and clean-off systems as well as textile solutions for outdoor areas and contract business round off the unique range. Another highlight: a new carpet area is being planned together with the exhibitor Ragolle Rugs and the Belgian association Fedustria. The association will be exhibiting together with well-known exhibitors from Belgium in a high-quality joint presentation.

Strong resonance from the industry: these exhibitors are taking part

Numerous renowned companies have already confirmed their participation at Heimtextil 2025. Among them are big international names such as Bhadohi Carpets (India), Balta Home (Belgium) und Kaleen Lifestyle (India), who will exhibit for the first time at the upcoming Heimtextil. Renowned brands like Lalee OHG (Germany) and strong returnees like Heritage Overseas (India), Mittal International (India), Oriental Weavers Group (Oriental Weavers Carpets, EFCO, MAC Carpet, Egypt), Ragolle Rugs (Belgium), Rugs in Style (India), The Rug Republic (India), Tufko International (India), Universal XXI (Spain) and Vini Décor (India) have also signed up. Within the Decoteam, the carpet supplier Infloor-Girloon (Germany) and the manufactory Paulig (Germany) with unique hand-woven products will present themselves. In addition, the member companies of the Belgian association Fedustria and, for the first time, the Tunisian association Office National de L’Artisanat will show their high-quality carpets at Heimtextil.

The exhibitors confirm the successful establishment of the new product area and the role of Heimtextil as a global industry meeting point and showcase for new trends, collections and products: “Our first participation in this year’s Heimtextil was a success; Heimtextil represents a destination for textile innovations in the home textiles industry, trends, sustainable impulses, and a variety of unique opportunities for our business. We benefited from excellent introductions and numerous new international contacts. We look forward to participating again in 2025”, says Yasmine Khamis, Chairwoman Oriental Weavers Group.

Mittal International emphasises the joint industry presence in the Carpets & Rugs product segment as well as the Frankfurt location as a new anchor point for the carpet industry: “We really appreciate the initiative taken by Messe Frankfurt in launching the Carpets & Rugs segment at Heimtextil. The concept was convincing across the board and met the needs of the industry. We had a successful start, a good influx of customers and also received orders from the USA and Mexico. Carpets & Rugs as a new platform for the carpet industry is a great advantage for us, as we can focus on all segments at Heimtextil. We are even expanding our stand space in Frankfurt for 2025. We are looking forward to participating again in order to continue shaping the new product area for the future,” says Manmohan Sharma, Founding Partner Mittal International.

Current trends and customised content

The additional hall level not only offers an expanded range of exhibitor presentations and product innovations – an extensive content programme also awaits visitors on the two Heimtextil stages: With business-promoting specialist presentations on current industry topics, stimulating panel discussions and exciting guided tours, Heimtextil 2025 positions itself even stronger as a valuable knowledge platform for the carpet industry. The popular Carpet Lounge in the foyer of Halls 5.1/6.1, equipped with high-quality exhibitor products, will once again bring unusual designs and new carpet trends to life in 2025 – and invites visitors to linger and network.

Heimtextil 2025 takes place from January 14 to 17, 2025.
